FAQs: PDF and Document Accessibility Audits
Answers about document coverage, testing, pricing and support.
From reports and policies to forms and presentations, we tailor the audit to the documents people need to use. Your project can cover a single file, a reusable template or a collection. Before giving you a quote, we agree formats, versions, priorities and any representative sample, so you know exactly what is covered. We can also remediate the issues identified, with the corrections and deliverables agreed in your quote.
We test to WCAG 2.2 AAA or your preferred compliance level, applying relevant criteria to each format. Our document audits use manual review and testing with NVDA, JAWS and operating-system screen readers; we do not use automated document audit tools.
We assess structure, reading order, headings, tables, alternative text, contrast, links and forms where relevant. Document viewers, screen-reader combinations and any PDF/UA assessment are agreed in your quote.
Depending on your organisation services and markets, we can test against requirements including:
We present your findings, explain priorities and answer questions so your team understands what to address and why.
Understand the main barriers, their impact and the priorities for improving accessibility across the documents in scope.
See where each issue occurs, the relevant criteria, severity, evidence and practical recommendations to help your team make changes.
Send us your fixes to audited issues for retesting during the three months from report presentation, helping your team close findings.
Every audit quote includes three months of Nexus Inclusion Pro access and retesting of your fixes to audited issues. This three-month period starts when we present your report. We check changes to audited issues and explain whether the fixes resolve them.
Nexus Inclusion Pro supports your wider website and content accessibility work. If you continue afterwards, we offer a discount on all 12-month plans.

Your quote reflects the formats, file and page counts, complexity, priorities and assessment required. Tell us about your documents, deadlines and any known concerns. We agree the scope and deliverables before work begins. Any remediation you need is included in the quote as agreed work.
Tell us whether you have PDFs, Word documents, presentations, spreadsheets or other formats. We confirm supported formats and the testing approach in your quote. For scanned or image-only documents, we assess the accessibility implications and identify any text recognition or structural work needed.
A checker result cannot establish whether a document makes sense or can be used successfully. Our specialists manually review the document and test with NVDA, JAWS and operating-system screen readers. We assess reading order, meaningful alternatives, navigation and interaction, with viewers and screen-reader combinations agreed for the formats in scope.
We test applicable WCAG 2.2 A, AA and AAA criteria unless otherwise agreed, documenting failures and non-applicable criteria. PDF/UA assessment is scoped separately by edition and PDF version where required. The quote defines the agreed requirements. Testing against a target does not itself establish conformance or legal compliance.
Coverage can include US ADA and Section 508, Ontario’s AODA and applicable Canadian requirements, Irish and EU requirements including relevant EN 301 549 criteria, and UK accessibility legislation. We agree the jurisdictions, document uses and applicable requirements, including any exceptions. Other jurisdictions can be considered when scoping your project.
Yes. We can scope individual files, templates with representative output, or collections. We agree any audit sample and record its limits. A sample does not establish that every file is accessible. Later authoring and export can introduce new issues, so we define the versions and outputs to be checked.
Tell us the document types, approximate volume, intended use and deadline. We agree file versions, the transfer process and confidentiality requirements before starting; no sensitive upload is needed initially. Available source files can help us understand recurring issues. Added files or new versions may affect scope and timing.
Yes. Alongside audits, we offer PDF and document remediation to correct agreed issues and verify the changes. You can commission an audit on its own or include remediation. We agree the files, source access, approvals, corrections and final outputs in your quote, so the work fits your needs.
Pro access and fix retesting run together for three months from report presentation. Submit revised files through the agreed process so we can verify corrections to audited issues. Pro supports your wider website and content accessibility work. After the included access, we offer a discount on all 12-month plans.
Yes. Accessibility statement writing is an optional addition where relevant to the website or service publishing your documents. We agree its scope and the information needed in your quote. A statement describes accessibility information; it does not replace document testing or remediation.
Tell us about your PDFs, documents and priorities. We will scope the work and provide a tailored audit quote.
